Economic Systems Dismantling
The question of Africa's perennial and escalating poverty seems to have no answers, with many notions concocted and championed by various sections to push known agendas. Author Andyford Mayele Banda is the leader of the People's Alliance for Change (PAC) and a Zambian presidential aspirant. Banda has already twice attempted to win the presidency, coming fourth out of nine in 2016, and ranking fourth again in 2021 (that time out of 16) in the general elections, aged 35 and 40 respectively. Banda believes it is time for Africa to claim her rightful position in the international political and economic affairs by dismantling the current political and economic systems adopted from colonialism. In this book, Economic Systems Dismantling – Why Zambia can be the model for African transformation, Banda explores the impact of colonialism on Africa's political and economic systems, starting at the Berlin Conference of 1884 and continuing through independence to our modern day. There is enough evidence to demonstrate that the colonial, political and economic systems set up during Europe's industrial revolution (to a great extent aided, facilitated and perpetuated by African elites for their personal gain) are largely responsible for Africa's underdevelopment and escalating poverty. While some may argue that six decades after independence, Africa cannot continue blaming colonialism, Economic Systems Dismantling highlights colonialism's lasting effects on the continent's political and economic systems, detailing how these impacts have enabled the continuous exploitation of Zambia and African mineral resources at large. To move Africa onto the path of economic transformation and reverse escalating poverty, the only solution is to dismantle and disentangle from the colonial overload. Zambia's political and economic systems covering mining, agriculture, financial services, energy, manufacturing and tourism, are used to demonstrate what needs to be done to dismantle and reverse the upward trend of poverty and shift towards the African transformation agenda. This book provides solutions to the many challenges affecting Zambia and by extension the African continent.
