The First Move

For the world's greatest consulting detective, a stolen letter from the secretive Diogenes Club should be a simple diversion. But when Sherlock Holmes investigates, he finds himself drawn into a deadly chess match played on the fog-shrouded streets of London. The trail of clues, marked by sinister chess pieces, leads to a shocking murder and a dramatic confrontation with his arch-nemesis, Professor Moriarty. With the Napoleon of Crime finally behind bars, the city breathes a sigh of relief. But for Holmes, the victory feels disturbingly hollow. His unease is confirmed when a cryptic message arrives, warning that while he may have taken the king, he failed to see the queen's move. Holmes realizes with chilling certainty that Moriarty's capture was not a defeat, but a calculated sacrifice. A new, unseen player has taken control of the board—a ruthless mastermind who has been manipulating events from the shadows. Now, caught in a web of intrigue that stretches from the criminal underworld to the very heart of the British government, Holmes must question the loyalty of his own blood. To save the Empire, he must unravel a conspiracy orchestrated by a ghost and win a game where every victory might be another step into a perfectly laid trap. Because in A Game of Shadows, the most dangerous opponent is the one you can't see.
