A Love That Burns

Penelope spends an evening busking with her guitar outside of the restaurant down the street from the police station and on the way back, catches the attention of the Chief of Police. No, that isn't quite right. She doesn't just draw his attention, she captures his heart, mind, body, and soul. He tracks her down as though it is his sole mission in life to find her and claim her... and claim her he does, his hands like iron on her skin, a fever burning brighter than anything she has ever experienced. Their relationship is a new, raw, exciting thing... but it isn't a relationship at all. His position as the chief of police could potentially put her in danger, so it has to be kept hidden. Their explosive meeting plays like a dream and she goes back to her life and tries to make sense of it all, but none of it makes sense. A werewolf finds her out of nowhere and claims that he's a mate they'll be spending the rest of their lives together? It was preposterous. Impossible. She is a nobody with no future and he was so far out of her league that they aren't even in the same hemisphere. And yet, there is something completely undeniable about their attraction towards one another.
