However, she cannot tolerate the aloofness of Bill Steele, a gold prospector, who is resistant to her feminine charms. The more she wants to bring him under her control, the more he distances himself from her. At last, she enlists the help of a dubious fellow to help her in her manoeuvres but alas she is double-crossed at her own game! Will Bill manage to rescue her? Will they finally reunite?

Nato a Salinas nel 1882, scrittore e giornalista californiano, dopo gli studi universitari iniziò a lavorare come insegnante e come reporter freelance a San Francisco. Dopo soggiorni nell’Illinois, in Texas e a New York, tornò in California, dove iniziò a scrivere romanzi western e polizieschi. Fu autore di più di quaranta romanzi e di numerosi racconti, molti dei quali vennero portati sul grande schermo. Morì ad Auburn, in California, nel 1943.
