Terry Brooks è uno scrittore americano, tra i più importanti e letti autori di fantasy. Prima di sposare la professione di narratore, ha studiato Letteratura Inglese all'Hamilton College e si è poi laureato in legge alla Washington & Lee University; e ha praticato per diversi anni l'avvocatura. Sposato, Terry Brooks vive tra Seattle e le Hawaii con la moglie Judine.Il suo primo romanzo è del 1977, e si intitola La spada di Shannara: appena dopo l'uscita, è rimasto per ben cinque mesi nella classifica del «New York Times» dei libri più venduti.
