Jonathan Lethem è figlio di un pittore e di una militante della sinistra radicale, cresciuto in una Brooklyn divisa fra italiani, neri ed ebrei, tra classici del cinema di fantascienza, cartoni animati della Warner Bros., la grande letteratura europea e la cultura hippy. È cresciuto leggendo Calvino e la Highsmith, Dostoevskij e Ray Bradbury, e se fino all’adolescenza da grande voleva fare il pittore, a vent’anni si è ritrovato sulla West Coast a lavorare fra gli scaffali di una libreria – e alle prime versioni dei suoi romanzi.La lunga parentesi californiana dura più di dieci anni, che comprendono un breve matrimonio (con la scrittrice Shelley Jackson) e la pubblicazione dei suoi primi romanzi: nel 1994 Gun with Occasional Music (Concerto per...
