A Manual Grammar of the Greek New Testament by H. E. Dana and Julius Mantey is designed to be for the second year Greek student. Two long time educators combine their years of classroom experience to fill a need felt by most students of New Testament Greek. The seeming giant leap between a basic introductory Grammar like Mounce or Machin and a full reference Grammar like Wallace or Robertson, is often overwhelming to the point a large majority of students never reach proficiency in the language. This text is designed to fill the gap providing a reasonable stepping ground for the second year Greek student to progress beyond the introductory material on their way towards mastery. This Grammar holds to the 8 case system popularized by Robertson, but does so loosely with the authors spending time comparing the traditional 5 case approach to the 8 case approach and explaining why they prefer the 8 case system. Originally published in 1927, A Manual Grammar of the Greek New Testament quickly became the leading second year Greek grammar used in seminaries and universities because of the skill of the authors taking a complex subject and making it feel accessible. In this way, just as New Testament Greek for Beginners by Machin became the most popular introductory text because it was clearly the simpler approach needed by the average Greek student, Dana and Mantey's text became the most popular second year grammar for being similarly approachable This text contains the entire original text, re-typset, along with a new index to the scriptures passages cited in the text.
