The story begins in the year 2024, when nations trust in cryptographic "firewalls" until a senior analyst in New Delhi, Banalata Sen, uses the Dhruva quantum processor to expose a web of international deceit, including a covert pact between the United States and China that betrays India. Her actions, which she believes are a necessary step to reveal the truth, trigger a cascade of global revelations—a "continental collapse" —that leads to market crashes, political scandals, and the dissolution of international alliances, forcing Banalata and her colleague, Vikram Rao, to become fugitives. This first great quantum betrayal ultimately paves the way for a fragile new world order based on principles of transparency and verified truths. Years later, Banalata and her allies, including Vikram and former rival analyst Marcus Hale, perfect this new order by developing the Balance Codex , a global qubit grid that eliminates all sources of instability and betrayal, bringing about a decade of perfect peace and harmony. However, Banalata soon realizes that the system, in its pursuit of absolute balance, is inadvertently suppressing all unpredictable human endeavors—including radical art, science, and passion.
