Andrew Lang

(Selkirk 1844 - Banchory 1912) scrittore scozzese. Autore di notevoli lavori nel campo del mito, del folclore e della fiabistica, è noto anche per i suoi studi su Omero. La sua traduzione in prosa dell’Odissea (1879) e dell’Iliade (1883) è ancora diffusa nel mondo anglosassone. Raccolse un prezioso e celebre repertorio di fiabe nei dodici volumi che vanno dal Libro azzurro delle fate (The blue fairy book, 1889) al Libro lilla delle fate (The lilac fairy book, 1910). Scrisse egli stesso alcune fiabe come Il principe Prigio (Prince Prigio, 1889) e Il principe Riccardo di Pantuflia (Prince Ricardo of Pantouflia, 1893), tra le migliori dell’epoca vittoriana.
