The OCCASIONAL Betrayals

My entire life had always been very simple and straightforward. I had a middle-class upbringing and therefore, I had very solid values inculcated in me. I had a very deep conscience since my childhood about what I considered as right or wrong. If my values suggested something was wrong, I would never do that. I was also very clear about my "needs" and "wants" to decide what was more important in my life. Everyone found that concept complicated; but to me; it was very simple – what I couldn't live without was my 'need 'and what I could possibly do without was my 'want'. I always used to think about them as OXYGEN vs. a CAPPUCCINO! It was gradually dawning upon me that there was finally someone who, rather unintentionally, had uprooted the very foundation of that belief system. He had left me totally confused and convoluted my entire thought process. I had always loved my partner immensely and never imagined a situation where a third person would come between us. I was not sure about my feelings for him at that juncture and I still believed that it was either a very strong physical attraction or just something that was making me feel incredibly nice and wanted; to an extent that I had done some crazy and first-time-ever things. And this nice feeling was despite the fact that we had never really gotten along as two persons who were close over a sustained period of time or for that matter had very pleasant interactions. Most of our exchanges had always ended bitterly with one of us snapping. I was wondering if I should confess everything in front of my partner. Only thing that had stopped me, at least at that time, was the fact that I had not really gotten close to him in any way! Yes, I had this wild dream about him, but that was about it. Synopsis: A young and ambitious woman joins a top rung advertising firm as a management trainee and immediately attracts the benevolence of her senior colleague. Finding herself physically & emotionally drawn to him as well, she sets out on a journey of finding the perfect harmony in her life while cleverly manipulating it between her live-in partner and him. Starting with flirtatious innuendo, their relationship slowly gets built over a strong foundation of physical attraction, and survives many a test over a sustained period of time. The unique novella, written in a combination that purely consists of a monologist narration and bilateral dialogues between the two protagonists, beautifully captures several moments of their togetherness and the resultant conflict in their respective lives. The story reaches its crescendo with both discovering their true feelings; but still finding themselves betrayed by each other in a very strange sort of way. Have you ever fallen for someone before thinking twice? Thrice? An unknown emotion saddles my being, Have never felt a heartbeat so magnified, It is taking my breath away, But its essence is in unified. The downpour of passion has not eased, Though tears in my eyes have dried, I find myself not defeated but defied, A feeling not alien but peculiarly dignified. I stand spellbound in the middle of nowhere, limitless in a way, Never wanting to conquer those pinnacles in which I couldn't confide. I never quite fathom, Why the realm is so unfounded, But then I reckon life is an event of sort, That is forever meant to be sprouted.
