È autore della raccolta di racconti Tunneling to the center of the earth, che ha ricevuto un Alex Award dalla American Library Association, e dello Shirley Jackson Award. Il suo primo romanzo, La famiglia Fang, è del 2011. I suoi racconti sono stati pubblicati su diverse riviste, fra le quali citeremo Ploughshares, Tin House, One Story, la Cincinnati Review, e figurano in quattro volumi delle New stories from the south: The year's best anthology. Wilson vive a Sewanee, nel Tennessee, con sua moglie, la poetessa Leigh Anne Couch, e il figlio Griff. Insegna narrativa all'Università del Sud.
