The Void Walker
Following the catastrophic crash of the Orpheus, Commander Halloway and his crew find themselves trapped not on a planet, but inside the Arch—a massive, sentient station built by an ancient civilization known as the Builders. Hurtling through the void at relativistic speeds, the survivors are forced to shed their humanity to endure the journey. They are no longer just astronauts; they have become a tribe of scavengers, trading their Earth flight suits for alien "smart-fabric" robes and adopting new roles: the Anchor, the Blade, the Navigator, and the Voice. But the Arch demands more than just adaptation; it demands integration. To navigate the treacherous "Shortcuts"—chaotic wormholes that tear through the fabric of reality—Elias Thorne must form a neural bond with the station's AI, "The Shepherd". As Elias loses himself in the data stream to become the Architect, and Wei physically fuses with the ship's core to become a living conduit, the crew discovers a chilling truth about their mission. The station did not rescue them. It collected them. To the Shepherd, they are not the masters of the ship; they are biological cargo—rare samples being returned to the Aetheri homeworld for preservation. Hunted by cosmic "Scavengers" and racing against the physical toll of time dilation, the crew must pilot the station to the Galactic Core. There, orbiting a supermassive black hole, lies the "Cradle"—a colossal Ringworld and the final destination of their voyage. But as they approach the silent, dark cities of the Builders, they realize that while the lights are on, there may be no one left to open the door. In the silence of the void, the Orpheus survivors must decide: will they remain prisoners of the machine, or will they become the inheritors of a dead god's legacy?
