Enter the Chain: a band of narrative guardians linked by a psychic bond, led by Kaelen, a reluctant Scribe wielding a Star-metal staff he feels unworthy to hold. Together with Barak the stone-skinned Anchor, Elara the steel-willed Paladin, Silas the wind-woven Ranger, Valerius the logic-driven Artificer, and Nyx the cynical Thief, Kaelen must cross the border into the Rot to save the Green Dragon, Verdant. If the Dragon dies in his sleep, the concept of Life itself will be erased from the world. But Malakor controls the environment, weaponizing the narrative against them. He turns trees into hollow shells, mud into traps of despair, and summons armies of Ink-Golems that can read the heroes' moves before they make them. To defeat an enemy who dictates the laws of physics and plot, the Chain needs a variable that cannot be predicted. They find it in Lyra, the daughter of the fallen High Scribe.
