Betwixt And Between

Betwixt and Between is a wild, self-aware adventure that starts like an international spy thriller and gradually turns into something stranger, funnier, and more personal. The book opens with Peter Noble, a polished CIA operative tangled in danger, romance, and shadowy global threats. Then the story shifts into the bewildering life of Johnny Marathon, a man who wakes up in New York City with a new identity, missing memories, a mysterious woman's photograph, and a trail of clues that keeps pulling him deeper into a world that seems to be rewriting itself as he moves through it. Johnny's breakthrough moment comes when an annoying homeless man reveals Johnny is the hero in a novel being written by, Judd Myrvin, a clueless writer whose undisciplined writing skills have trapped Johnny and a cast of supporting characters in literary purgatory. Johnny's only hope to regain his memory, find the woman in the photo and remain the story's hero is to convince Judd to stop controlling his characters' actions and reactions. But Johnny is not alone in his quest. The story's supporting characters include two rival mob bosses, a voluptuous hit-woman with deadly curves and a pair of corrupt NYC police officers, each determined to extract Judd's name and address from Johnny for their own selfish means. To escape purgatory and find salvation, Johnny must track down his creator before his pursuers. Through one misadventure after another, Johnny finds Judd, only to be cornered in the writer's apartment by an epic shootout between the mobsters and the NYPD. The shootout ends with all of the main characters inside Judd's apartment and the corrupt cops in control. The lead cop orders Judd to make him the story's hero but Judd refuses to listen to the police officer, to Johnny or any of his characters, leaving them all betwixt and between. Betwixt and Between is a genre-blending novel about characters fighting for meaning inside a story that won't sit still.
