"Reconstructing a chapter of life after close to 80 years seems, at first glance, impossible, especially when it relies on a child's memories as seen through his own eyes. There may be a measure of longing and nostalgia in them, but I have come to realize that childhood memories are etched deep in a person's mind, and one can retrieve them." The book unfolds the story of my family's life, from the mellah (Jewish quarter) in Meknes to their immigration to the Land of Israel, and describes the family's attempts to immigrate to the Land of Israel through various roundabout, improvised routes. My personal story and the path by which I came to the Land of Israel with my younger brother, apart from our parents, via France and Norway, until my arrival in the Land of Israel and my absorption into Kibbutz HaZore'a, is part of the story of the immigration of Jews from Arab countries, reflecting the ingathering of exiles of the people of Israel in their land. Abraham Levi is 85 years old, and has lived his entire life in Kibbutz HaZore'a. From the day he arrived at the kibbutz he has never left it. A storyteller at heart, he volunteers with at-risk youth and in many other settings. He is the father of four children and the grandfather of nine. He has been married to his childhood sweetheart, Miriam, to this day.
