Carotid disease has been a matter of intense research in vascular surgery since the first carotid procedure in 1951, however a great deal of information is still lacking in order to reach the optimum in stroke prevention. Cerebrovascular disease is the second cause of death in Western countries, too much still needs to be done. This book is the result of the work of many of the most renowned experts in this field, in an effort to summarize and assess the contemporary knowledge on the pathology, diagnosis and treatment of carotid disease and to build a bridge toward future horizons in the discipline.
