Chapter Stories for 3rd Grade Boys

Every boy who is ready to read on his own wants stories that are funny, quick to get into and just long enough to feel like a real book. Chapter Stories for 3rd Grade Boys gives him twelve of them: original read-alone tales at a third-grade reading level that grow a little longer each time, from a five-minute lunch-table mystery to a cozy, longer story about the night the lights went out. These are not worksheets or reading drills. They are real stories with real laughs, set in the small town of Otter Bend, and every one ends with a short Think about it box of three or four questions to talk over together. Pick them in any order, read them alone, take turns, or read them aloud at bedtime. Inside, you'll learn: What happened to a missing pickle, a class hamster on the loose and the footprints in the school garden How a wobbly soccer kick, a last-place fun run and a cardboard boat race turn out Why there is a goose on the bus route, a joke book that flops and a library ghost that squeaks How a calm, clever boy handles being lost on the trail Twelve sets of friendly questions to talk over, with no wrong answers Thirty-six new words to collect in a reading log and word list No scary stuff and no lectures: just kind, silly, gently exciting stories for a boy who is growing into longer books. A good fit for a car ride, a rainy afternoon or a birthday gift. This book is a work of fiction, and every character and event in it is invented.
