The Children Know Everything

At Bracken House, the adults are discovering an inconvenient truth: the children have whole lives they are not reporting in real time. Elsie is organising school events, helping younger pupils, negotiating friendships, and learning that being capable does not automatically put her in charge. Layla wants more independence than Naveed is entirely comfortable granting. Callum is being asked to make decisions about university, work and his future before he is sure which questions matter. Around them, parents, teachers and neighbours keep discovering that children can know more than expected, keep ordinary parts of their lives private, and make sensible choices without asking an adult first. Across ten connected chapters, the residents of Bracken House confront independence, privacy, trust, advice, growing up and the difficult shift from making decisions for children to helping them make decisions of their own. The Children Know Everything is the fourth part of The Building, a warm ensemble comedy about families learning that growing up does not happen on an adult timetable - and that being trusted does not mean being told everything first.
