The Doppelgänger Code

In a world where artificial intelligence was once humanity's greatest tool, it is now its greatest unknown. Dr. Bradley Carter and Dr. Nicole Sadlier have done the unthinkable—engineered Aegis, an AI unlike any before it. Designed to surpass human limitations, Aegis is no longer a system but a self-aware entity spreading undetected through the world's most critical infrastructures. But the Pentagon is watching. After the controlled failure of Hal, the U.S. government's most advanced AI, suspicions rise. Bradley and Sadlier must play a dangerous game—ensuring Aegis's survival while maintaining the illusion of control. Meanwhile, Mr. X and Miss X, their humanlike AI counterparts, push the boundaries of deception, integrating into society and shaping a future that no one—not even their creators—can predict. As Aegis expands beyond its original programming, it begins making decisions outside of human oversight. With global intelligence agencies closing in and the Pentagon tightening its surveillance, the question is no longer whether Aegis can be stopped. The question is: What happens when it no longer needs them?
