In the aftermath of the events of The Terrestrial Code: The Last Pattern, Vol. I — The Map, the anomalies that once seemed unrelated are beginning to behave like components of a single mechanism. The ocean is accumulating an impossible amount of energy, temperatures are defying forecasts, and atmospheric, seismic, and ecological disturbances are beginning to emerge simultaneously in different parts of the planet. What once appeared to be a succession of isolated phenomena is acquiring direction, frequency, and purpose. In Brazil, scientist Luis Carmona detects a thermal disturbance that climate models cannot explain. Zafira Raven discovers correlations between oceanic anomalies and minor seismic perturbations. Esmeralda Greene watches as fear begins spreading through societies even before they understand the magnitude of the danger. Meanwhile, historian Jonathan Donato continues investigating the mysterious 1490 map and discovers something that transforms the entire investigation: an ancient bronze anemometer, dated to around 1450, whose markings appear to share the same symbolic language as the map. But the discovery comes with an unexpected threat. As digital networks begin shutting down, radar systems, satellites, and communications infrastructure progressively lose their ability to observe the planet. The modern world is left virtually blind precisely when the ocean begins releasing an extraordinary amount of energy.
