God, the Self and the Void
"Thousands of years of unanswered prayers are not a mystery. They are the answer." What if God had never existed? What if, for millennia, humanity had been speaking to someone who was never there? Why has an all-powerful, all-knowing, and infinitely good God never provided the slightest public, verifiable proof of His existence? This book relies neither on faith nor theology, but on facts: history, science, and philosophy. In four chapters, this brief and uncompromising essay explores: The Empty Closet: God's silence in the face of human suffering and the total absence of any evidence. The God Factory: How human beings invented their gods, and how the altar and the throne learned to rule together—leading all the way to the Coricancha in Cusco, upon whose walls a convent was built. The "Self": Human beings, their consciousness, their fear of death, and their right to think and judge without divine intermediaries. Nothingness: What happens when we die, and why the end of consciousness is not the end of the matter that composes us. We are dust, and to dust we shall return. From the processions in Barranco, Lima, to the great questions of science, the author maintains a clear conviction: the perfect God of religion has never existed. Yet, he demands no leap of faith. Instead, he offers a wager: the day God steps out of the closet with real, verifiable proof, he will change his mind. Until then, this conclusion stands. "God has never stepped out of the closet, and those who charge admission have spent centuries claiming He is inside." The heavens are empty, but the Earth is yours. This is not a book about learning to believe; it is a book about daring to think.
