The Green Ghost

In 6th-century Egypt, there were six major trading centers: Alexandria, an intellectual hub of the Christian Byzantine world; Memphis, near the Nile Delta; Thebes, a religious and governmental center in Upper Egypt; Aswan, also in the same region; Hermopolis; and Antinoopolis. Julianus's small caravan, consisting of about 25 crew members, wagons, mules, camels, and some horses, traveled from Memphis through the desert to nearby towns for trade and business. When they stopped at an oasis to rest, refill water skins, and give their pack animals a break from the desert's harshness, unknown forces suddenly disrupted their routine. Having lived and worked together for weeks, facing the usual dangers of the Egyptian deserts, the crew’s everyday life was suddenly thrown into disarray. Dioscorus, an almost slave, drunkard, and military man with a tragic past of losing his wife and children, found redemption after Julianus offered him a job to protect the caravan where he had met his wife. Together, they had two children. He would face tough decisions as fate descended on him and his son, Ehab.
