The Jealous Wind

Synopsis In ancient Amyclae, the god Apollo descends to earth disguised as a mortal musician and becomes the guest and friend of seventeen-year-old Prince Hyacinthus. Drawn to the young prince's intelligence, athletic talent, music, and joy for life, Apollo vows to remain near him without revealing his divine nature. But Apollo is not the only immortal watching Hyacinthus. Zephyrus, the West Wind, has loved Apollo for ages, carrying his music and prayers across the world while hiding his devotion behind the gentleness of the breeze. When he sees Apollo's growing affection for Hyacinthus, his ancient love turns into jealousy. As the prince becomes the center of a complicated bond between god, mortal, and wind, the approaching athletic festival brings all three destinies together. Apollo gives Hyacinthus a magnificent bronze discus and teaches him the one rule that might save his life: never run beneath a flying discus. Yet fate, jealousy, and a single moment of deception will bring the ancient myth toward its inevitable tragedy. After Hyacinthus's death, Apollo must confront grief, guilt, and the limits of divine power, while Zephyrus is forced to face the consequences of his jealousy. From mourning comes the birth of the hyacinth flower and, eventually, a ritual of remembrance that transforms personal loss into enduring myth. The Jealous Wind is a lyrical LGBTQ+ retelling of the classical myth of Apollo and Hyacinthus, exploring love, jealousy, grief, forgiveness, and the painful price of loving someone who cannot remain forever.
