David Almond è uno scrittore inglese specializzato nella narrativa per ragazzi, i suoi libri sono tradotti in più di quaranta lingue. È nato a Newcastle ed è cresciuto in una grande famiglia cattolica a Felling-on-Tyne. Da piccolo amava la biblioteca locale e sognava sempre di vedere un giorno i suoi libri su quegli scaffali: ha sempre saputo di voler fare lo scrittore. Si è laureato in Letteratura Inglese e Americana all’Università dell’East Anglia e prima di diventare scrittore a tutti gli effetti ha svolto vari lavori, tra cui portiere in un hotel, postino, bracciante e insegnante. In Italia ha pubblicato numerosi libri tra cui Skellig (Salani, 2009), Argilla (Salani, 2010), La storia di Mina (Salani, 2011), Il bambino che si arrampicò...
