A remote fishing village in the far reaches of the Scottish Highlands is the last place Cal Hannah wants to be. People come from Fasker, they rarely go back. But, returning for his twin brother's funeral after an absence of twenty years, Cal has little choice. The village Cal remembers has changed in subtle but quietly unsettling ways. Haunted by a grief he struggles to express, Cal retraces a climb from his youth up the mountain that looms behind Fasker. There, he discovers more than memories when he spots a woman's body part-buried in the snow, her loyal dog Maddie shivering by her side. Coaxing the frightened dog to safety and determined to identify her owner, Cal begins to unearth secrets the village would rather stay buried. As the truth about the woman's death comes to light, it becomes clear that, this time, Fasker won't let Cal leave without a fight.
