It is the season when trees bloom, when leaves sprout in the woods and meadows become green, a season when everything flares up joyously. The son of the Lady Widow of the Lost Forest rises from his bed and in good spirits saddles up his hunter. He seizes three javelins and, thus equipped, sets out from his mother's abode. As soon as he enters the forest, he feels his heart uplifted with joy by the mild weather and the birdsong he can hear. All these things please him. The air is sweet and calm. The young man removes the horse's bit and lets him graze freely on some newly-greened grass. A lancer of some skill, he applies himself to throwing the javelins he has brought with him. He is interrupted by the sound of five fully-armed knights approaching through the woods. Their armor makes a great racket! The branches of oak and hornbeam slap constantly against them. Everything resounds, wood or metal of shields and coats of mail. - Alain Bergeron
