Primary Maths in Action

Designed to link research with real world classroom applications, the In Action series provides an accessible outline of key theories which teachers can then apply to their practice in their own unique settings. The writers of each of the In Action books are all either serving teachers or teachers who have taught for many years; ensuring the books' focus is grounded in the reality of teaching children in real classrooms. Primary Maths in Action provides a practical guide to teaching mathematics with clarity, confidence and purpose. Drawing on the principles that underpin effective maths teaching - including secure number sense, precise mathematical language, carefully chosen representations and coherent sequencing - Dr Kieran Mackle explores what evidence-informed practice looks like in everyday primary classrooms. From curriculum planning and lesson design to tackling misconceptions, assessment and enriching mathematical experiences beyond the classroom, this book bridges research and practice with actionable guidance throughout. "Primary Maths: In Action provides a compelling vision for what a world-class Primary mathematics curriculum can look like. It also attends, with exquisite precision, to the small details of mathematics teaching. Fantastic for maths leaders and teachers alike." Gareth Metcalfe, Director of I See Maths
