The Broken Hour
Five ordinary teenagers. Four minutes of impossible time. One terrifying responsibility. When twelve-year-old Lila Santiago is dragged by her mother to a mundane school board forum at Oak Creek Middle School during a violent thunderstorm, she expects nothing more than an evening of intense boredom. Scattered across the gymnasium bleachers are four other students who are complete strangers to her: Marcus, an intimidating eighth-grader; Emma, a hyper-analytical student obsessing over her biology test; Jack, the class clown trying to avoid volunteer work; and Tyler, a quiet boy observing the room from the shadows. At exactly 1:00 AM, the storm Knocks out the power, plunging the gym into darkness—but Tyler's digital watch freezes on 1:00:59. In a sudden flash of blinding green lightning, the air turns freezing cold, and the five teenagers are violently ripped from their reality into a sterile, futuristic laboratory filled with towering machines. Before a panicked scientist in a white coat can explain the unstable "tether" binding them, the green static swallows them again and snaps them back to the gym. The parents haven't noticed a thing, and reality has seemingly reset. But the five kids soon realize it wasn't a hallucination when the green light strikes again at 1:01 AM, hurling them into a freezing, mud-filled trench in the middle of World War I. The Pendulum of Time As the countdown timer permanently binds itself to Tyler's wrist, the "Clock Watchers Club" discovers a terrifying truth: they have broken the hour, and the temporal tether is bouncing them wildly through the timeline. Every seventy-two hours, they will be ripped from their normal, suburban lives and dropped into a new historical peril—from the artillery-shattered trenches of the Somme to the burning sands of Ancient Egypt and the chaotic decks of an 18th-century pirate galleon. To stabilize the timeline and find a way back to normalcy, they must work together to find glowing silver shards of a shattered future tablet that have been scattered across history, fixing critical anomalies before time collapses entirely.
