When the Music is Over

Juan Pablo Sicat has spent four years writing songs that matter to him and playing them for rooms that barely notice. Then one blurry phone clip from a bar in Quezon City goes viral overnight—and everything he thought he wanted finally seems within reach. A producer offers the band a future none of them could have built alone: real studio time, real audiences, and a real shot at being known. All it costs, at first, is a chorus that repeats a little more cleanly, a bridge that resolves instead of unsettles. Small things. Reasonable things. But success has a way of asking for more than it first admits to. As Juan Pablo's songs get easier to love and harder to recognize as his own, the people who believed in him before anyone else did—his bandmate Marco, who's spent thirteen years chasing the spotlight Juan Pablo is handed without asking; his girlfriend Sapphire, who used to hear every unfinished song first—start finding out about his life from the internet, same as everyone else. When the Music Is Over is a novel about the gap between being heard and being known, about what it costs to become the story everyone wants to hear, and about the quieter, harder question underneath all of it: if nobody knew his name, would Juan Pablo still want to make music at all? For readers of literary fiction about art, ambition, and the price of being seen.
