Glenn Miller

1904, Clarinda, Iowa

Direttore d'orchestra statunitense. Debuttò nel jazz come trombonista, suonando con Ben Pollack, Red Nichols, i fratelli Dorsey e Benny Goodman, poi nel 1935 con Ray Noble. Nel 1937 fondò la sua prima orchestra, che gli diede una vasta popolarità anche nel cinema, eseguendo musica commerciale con influssi jazzistici. Nel 1942 si arruolò nell'aeronautica e diresse una grande orchestra che si esibiva per i militari, trasferendola in Inghilterra nel 1944, anno in cui perì durante un volo verso la Francia. Fra i successi discografici dell'orchestra: Moonlight Serenade, In the mood, Sunrise serenade, American patrol.
