"Nome d'arte di D. Mary Ann von Kapplehoff, attrice statunitense. Bionda, minuta all'apparenza, viso cosparso di efelidi ma simpatico, la «fidanzatina d'America» (come veniva spesso chiamata, nonostante i suoi quattro mariti) inizia a danzare e cantare da ragazzina; a diciassette anni è già sposata (divorzia dopo due anni) e a diciotto madre del suo unico figlio. Nel 1948 viene scritturata dalla Warner e debutta sullo schermo in Amore sotto coperta di M. Curtiz. È l'inizio di una luminosa carriera che la porterà a essere, fra il '60 e il '63, l'artista che fa incassare di più a Hollywood. A parte un paio di incursioni nel genere drammatico (è la protagonista della seconda versione di L'uomo che sapeva troppo, 1956, di A. Hitchcock, in cui canta «Que serà serà» per salvare il figlio), si dedica...
