An Amish Midsummer Day
It was a fine midsummer day when Claire Hochstetler watched Aaron Bontrager with narrowed and suspicious cobalt eyes. She had heard whispers from other young ladies in the town about the Bontragers and their strange customs. Everyone in the community of Adams County was God fearing, devout, and kind by nature, however, there was something a little worrisome about the newest family in town. It didn't seem that Claire's welcoming and naïve parents had noticed anything strange which in turn concerned their fiery-willed, blonde-haired daughter of nineteen years. And when Claire rummages through her father's desk one day, she discovers a scary amount of money being withdrawn from their savings and given to Aaron Bontrager. As Claire leafed through the pages, she only grew more and more concerned with what was going on. Her mind was reeling. What on Earth are my parents giving him money for? Especially such a huge amount of money! Her heart was pounding in her chest. Claire just knew that something wasn't right and she was determined to find out what it was.
