Inglese, Sir Max Hastings scrive per il Daily Mail e il Financial Times. Ha ricevuto numerosi premi per i suoi libri e le sue inchieste – Reporter of the Year nel 1982 e Editor Of The Year nel 1988. Nel 2008 ha ottenuto la Medaglia Westminster per il suo contributo alla letteratura militare, e nel 2009 l’Edgar Wallace Trophy del Press Club di Londra.Ha presentato numerosi documentari televisivi ed è stato insignito di lauree honoris causa dalle università di Leicester e Nottingham. È stato promotore e presidente della Campagna per la protezione dell’Inghilterra rurale (2002-2007) e curatore e amministratore della National Portrait Gallery (1995-2004).Vive con la moglie nel West Berkshire.Tra le sue opere figurano Inferno. Il mondo in guerra 1939-1945...
