Battle Characters through the Ages

Battle in East Sussex, and the fifteen parishes around it, have produced, over the years, an exceptional number of people worth commemorating one way or another. There have been painters and authors, actors, kings, scientists and campaigners of all sorts over the centuries. There is even a martyr from the Elizabethan age. Not all of them were admirable people, of course - there has been a fair share of the misbehaved! Here you will find more than 60 of those worthy of notice, even if very few have made it to the Dictionary of National Biography (although one of them provided an astonishing 469 entries in that august publication).
