The Caretaker

"Keep the boilers running. Clear the snow from the cliffs. And under no circumstances ever unlock the storm cellar doors." Those were the only rules when I took the winter caretaker position at Highgate Cliff—a breathtaking glass-and-stone estate perched over the jagged, freezing Atlantic rocks of Maine. For twenty thousand dollars, all I had to do was guard the house for three solitary months while the wealthy Vance family wintered abroad. For a man with a shattered past and a name he desperately wanted the world to forget, it sounded like salvation. Then the blizzard of the decade hit. The roads collapsed into frozen rubble. The power grid snapped. And that was the night the knocking began. Not at the front door. Not at the windows three stories up. From beneath the locked cellar floorboards. Rhythmic. Desperate. Human. When I uncover the previous caretaker's hidden cassette tapes concealed behind the library walls, I realize a horrifying truth: the last woman who held this job didn't quit. She vanished into the snow. And someone inside this house is watching my every breath. *** An utterly addictive, pulse-pounding psychological thriller packed with secrets, paranoia, and a series of shocking twists that will leave you breathless until the final page. Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, Lucy Foley, and Colleen Hoover.
