The Clock That Bled
Sidney, Nebraska. 1984. Evelyn Morse finishes her late shift at the Phillips 66 truck stop and walks into the frozen dark beneath the town's water tower. She never makes it home. By dawn, her body is discovered in the snow with her neck snapped cleanly, purse untouched, keys still in her coat pocket, and no evidence explaining how she died beneath the towering rusted structure watching over town. The coroner rules homicide. The case goes cold within weeks. Her brother Greg stays behind, pumping gas beneath the neon hum of the station while Sidney slowly buries the story beneath prairie wind and winter silence. Then the tower begins bleeding. Each night at exactly 2:13 a.m., thick red streaks seep from its rusted bolts and drip into the snow below, forming boot prints that lead directly back to the Phillips 66. Evelyn's bloody handprint appears on the register counter. Mirrors begin reflecting her face instead of Greg's. And every reflection whispers the same thing: Find me. As the bleeding spreads across Sidney and the tower's shadow grows impossible to escape, Greg realizes Evelyn is not haunting the town for revenge. Something inside the tower never stopped counting. The Clock That Bled is a slow-burning dread novella about grief, repetition, guilt, and the terrifying possibility that some places trap the final moments of the dead forever. Filled with frozen highways, neon gas stations, bleeding steel, and endless prairie silence, it blends Americana ghost horror with relentless supernatural dread. Some clocks tell time. Others keep death alive.
