Eric Coates

1886, Hucknall, Nottinghamshire

Compositore inglese. Studiò la viola e la composizione alla Royal Academy of Music di Londra e fece poi parte di diversi quartetti d'archi, oltre che della Queen's Hall Orchestra, prima di dedicarsi completamente alla creazione di canzoni (come The sleepy lagoon, 1930) e di pezzi leggeri di levigata fattura, spesso in forma di suite (la London suite, 1933; Four Centuries, 1941), che godettero di una certa popolarità.
