Contracts

In a world where everything has a price, some jobs cost more than they're worth. Mama D and her crew aren't heroes. They're professional mercenaries who take dangerous jobs, collect their pay, and try to stay alive long enough to spend it. With a French ex-soldier, a self-proclaimed ninja, and a wisecracking pilot at her side, Mama has her hands full even when nobody's shooting at them. But in a future where corporations wield more power than governments, magic is real, and loyalty is often negotiable, even a straightforward contract can turn into a disaster. Rival mercenaries, dangerous secrets, and a young shaman with an unusual connection to alligators are just a few of the complications waiting for them. And sometimes the hardest part of a job isn't surviving it. It's deciding who deserves to survive. Contracts brings together six gritty, action-packed stories set in Jason Halstead's Dark Earth universe. Packed with cyberpunk technology, magic, violence, dark humor, and a crew whose personal lives are every bit as complicated as their professional ones, this anthology proves that getting paid is easy. Earning it is another matter.
