Cosmic Striptease

When humanity finally makes contact with an advanced alien civilization, the encounter promises wisdom, unity, and a glimpse of a better future. But instead of offering technology or political guidance, the visitors expose something far more unsettling: a mirror held up to Earth’s most carefully protected illusions. What follows is not invasion or destruction, but a slow, relentless unraveling of cultural taboos, commercial hypocrisy, and moral posturing—played out on the largest stage imaginable. Cosmic Striptease is a sharp, satirical exploration of what happens when a society built on repression is confronted with a civilization that has moved beyond shame. With humor, audacity, and biting insight, the story dissects mass media, corporate influence, and humanity’s fragile sense of decency. As the spectacle grows impossible to ignore, listeners are left to consider whether progress always arrives in the form we expect—or whether it strips us bare first. Harlan Ellison was one of the most provocative voices in science fiction, known for blending fearless social commentary with unforgettable storytelling. His work consistently challenged readers to confront uncomfortable truths, and Cosmic Striptease stands as an early example of his willingness to question authority, conformity, and the myths civilization tells itself.
