The character Nedda Courtland was born in the Sailing with Mystery short story collection. Multi-published writer M.A. Lee's love of historical mysteries began before her teen-aged years. Regency novels motivated her own twelve-book mystery series Hearts in Hazard. Authors like Mary Stewart inspired her Into Death series.
