Culture and Occupation: Effectiveness for Occupational Therapy Practice, Education, and Research

Occupational therapy can no longer ignore the larger contextual issues that bring a diverse array of clients for services. Practitioners, educators, researchers, and students across all practice areas must recognize the need to be social agents for change and to educate about sociopolitical structures that maintain inequities and disparities in health and occupation. Only by becoming culturally competent can occupational therapy professionals effectively interact with all clients and their families and gain the necessary information to act on their needs.
