Cybercrime and Cybersecurity

The USP is clearly linking cybercrime causes with cybersecurity controls in a way that has not been done before. The book is unique in that it takes a problem-based approach rather than a solution-based approach; that is, developing a cybersecurity program requires an understanding of what behaviour is actually attempting to be controlled. Too often, books focus on describing the latest technologies, rather than the fundamental causes of cybercrime, and what can be done to prevent crime. This book is aimed at students who know nothing about cybersecurity or cybercrime. I want to take them on a journey from understanding the causes of cybercrime, describing its socially horrific and financially harmful consequences, and introduce the key concepts behind developing a cybersecurity program, beginning with a realistic assessment of cyber risk.
