Dentro l'opera. Ediz. inglese
This is a collection of intriguing and curious stories that highresolution details enable us to know and appreciate, integrating
the experience of seeing the art firsthand and inviting viewers to look again and again, always with a new eye.
Looking at a work of art is a different experience each time, but with one constant: every time we take the time to admire a painting or sculpture we interrogate with our eyes the images we have before us and expect, more or less consciously, some answers. Do I like what I see or am I repelled by it? Does it interest or bore me? Do I understand what I am seeing? Do I understand the choices the artist made? And is that inscription really by the author of the work? The aim of this book is to stimulate readers to work out their own questions, offering some cues for reflection, or maybe – a bit ambitiously – a “method” for interrogating artworks that is always applicable and can provide some further stimulus. The eye is urged to focus on some chosen details: whether because of their very high quality or technique, or because they tell a story, providing a narrative thread, or because they help us understand the conservation history of the work.
