German pianist Martin Stadtfeld recorded a special album featuring the most beautiful and beloved German folk songs which are newly arranged by Stadtfeld himself. Generations of people have grown up with these beloved, catchy and timeless melodies such as "Die Gedanken sind frei", "Geh aus mein Herz", "Der Mai ist gekommen", "Guter Mond" and many more. For the arrangements, Stadtfeld resorted here and there to the old passacaglia form. He even arranged "Guter Mond" for piano four hands (he can be heard with his pupil Bela Pflicht). In addition, Stadtfeld gave expression to his personal feelings about the theme of the song in the preludes and postludes. In some songs, the proximity to the music of great composers is also recognizable. For example, Stadtfeld interwove melodies by Mozart and Beethoven in a few songs which might be recognized by attentive listeners. With this recording, Martin Stadtfeld continues his series of albums on which he arranges well-known melodies by famous composers such as Handel, Beethoven and Schumann, as well as traditional melodies for piano.
