APRIL 1941, NEW YORK CITY… and widowed typist Evelyn Ruth Dasher is alone and unwilling to come out of her cocoon of grief. But with war raging in Europe and a mysterious invite from a stranger to step into her late husband’s shoes as a Private Investigator herself, Evelyn has to decide if her life ended with her husband Harold’s or if she’s ready to face the world again. With mobsters, underground fight rings, a strange cult, and a very confused Tibetan spy running around, it might be a better choice for Evelyn to grab her cat Rorschach and lock her front door forever. But the pull of the mystery is too much, and she accepts her new charge; finding stolen religious artifacts and trafficked women while uncovering the Nazis responsible for their theft. Evelyn finds herself obsessed, not only with finding the stolen occult items and people, but with the clues left by her dead husband. Will she complete her mission? Why did Harold keep so much from her? Evelyn remembers he used to say, when the Devil shows you something, look to his other hand. Will she find what’s been stolen, or will she become lost in the darkness along with them?
