Dharma and Dao

After the unseen says "you," who is the one who hears? Dharma and Dao turns the inquiry inward. It follows Eastern ways of knowing through seeing, practice, alignment, release, and the quiet investigation of the seeker himself. India opens an ocean of Being through Vedic sacrifice, the Upanishads, dharma, karma, samsara, the *Bhagavad Gita*, devotion, temple, and Vedanta. Buddhism begins with suffering as teacher and moves through impermanence, no-self, dependent arising, emptiness, compassion, meditation, and the many rafts of practice. Zen points outside the scriptures through koan, shout, bowl, broom, and ordinary mind. China brings the Way into names, roles, rites, family, heart-mind, qi, cultivation, and Daoist nonforcing. The volume does not force Self and no-self, devotion and emptiness, cultivation and effortless action into agreement. It allows each tradition to keep its own grammar while asking what happens when the one who wants to own the path becomes part of the question. Texts, rituals, philosophies, and ordinary gestures remain distinct, but they are read beside one another as disciplines that alter how knowing happens. This is not a catalogue of Eastern beliefs. It is a pilgrimage through methods of seeing, until ocean, raft, bowl, and Way become fingers pointing beyond themselves.
