Kae Tempest ha vinto numerosi premi per le sue opere poetiche, narrative e musicali. Finalista del Costa Book Award e del BRIT Award, due volte in finale per il Mercury Prize e altrettante per l’Ivor Novello Award, nel 2013 ha vinto il Ted Hughes Award. Nel 2014 la Poetry Book Society ha inserito il suo nominativo nella lista Next Generation Poet, che ogni dieci anni individua le venti voci poetiche più promettenti del panorama britannico. Nel 2019 è uscito il suo quarto album musicale, The Book of Traps and Lessons.
