Scrittore statunitense. Dopo gli studi, nel Massachusetts e nel Tennessee, si è trasferito a New York, dove ha lavorato per l’agenzia pubblicitaria J. Walter Thompson, diventando il presidente della filiale americana. Vincitore nel 1977 del prestigioso premio Edgar per il miglior romanzo d’esordio (The Thomas Berryman Number), da allora si è imposto come uno dei migliori e più prolifici autori di thriller.
