Done for Now

You won’t ever be done, so you might as well be done for now. The New York Times bestselling author of The Lazy Genius Way and The PLAN works her signature magic on life’s most relentless everyday challenge: managing a home that never stays done. If you’ve ever looked around your house and thought, I just finished this, you’re not alone. Laundry multiplies overnight. Dishes seem to respawn. Piles of mail regenerate on the counter like belligerent weeds. As an expert in time management whose principles have helped everyone from regular moms to U.S. senators, Kendra Adachi believes you’re not lazy or disorganized—you’re living inside a system that resets itself the moment you stop moving. Done for Now offers a kinder, more realistic way through. Drawing on systems thinking and her experience helping listeners find a compassionate approach to life’s rhythms, Kendra Adachi helps readers step out of survival mode and into systems that actually work—ones that grow naturally, bend without breaking, and create a home that feels warm, reliable, and harmonious. Adachi shows how to bring ease and order to the most relentless household chores, like laundry, clutter, meal planning, and floors, using her signature Done for Now tools: • Later Zones: places where unfinished chores can wait without creating stress • The Timer Tidy: quick bursts of tidying that make a noticeable difference without wearing you out • Who What When: a flexible way to assign chores without micromanaging how they get done • Decide Once: low-stakes routines that remove the need to rethink the same chores every day In doing so, she reimagines housework as an act of care—for your space, your people, and yourself. By the end, you’ll see your home not as an endless to-do list, but as a living system that helps you start small, be kind, and be done for now.
