Electricity is familiar enough to feel understood. Current flows. Voltage drives. Resistance opposes. Batteries supply energy. Electrons move through wires. But how much of this language describes what experiments actually establish—and how much belongs to the physical picture we have learned to place around the measurements? THE ELECTRICAL TENSION begins there. Book I of A Battle in Electromagnetic Fields does not challenge the success of established electromagnetism. Its equations, measurements and technological consequences remain intact. Instead, Sandeep Chavan returns to ordinary electrical phenomena and asks a narrower but more difficult question: When the mathematics works, what can we safely claim actually happened? The investigation begins before the battery and before the circuit, with frictional charging, charge separation, attraction, repulsion, conductors, insulators and the electric field. It then moves toward maintained potential difference, voltage, current, electron drift, resistance and electrical heating. At each stage, familiar explanations are tested against what the experiment really requires. Voltage remains potential difference, but it is no longer mistaken for a substance or literal pressure. Current remains a measurable rate of charge transport, yet carrier drift is separated from the much faster propagation of changing electromagnetic conditions. Resistance remains quantitatively governed by established relations, while the material mechanisms beneath it—electronic states, scattering and temperature dependence—are allowed to remain physically distinct from the equation. Then comes the capacitor. Two conductors are separated by a region through which ordinary conduction does not proceed, yet the electrical system continues to respond. Capacitance, dielectric polarization and Maxwell's displacement current force a deeper distinction between charge transport and electromagnetic continuity. Dielectric breakdown then shows that even the categories conductor and insulator describe regimes of response rather than permanent identities. Finally, DC and AC are placed side by side. In alternating current, carrier motion repeatedly reverses while measurable electrical consequence continues through the system. The familiar image of microscopic particles simply travelling from source to destination can no longer carry the entire explanation. The book therefore arrives at a restrained conclusion rather than a replacement theory: Electrical behaviour depends upon the configuration of the system, its material and boundary conditions, and the physically available modes of response—not merely upon the presence of charged constituents. The electron remains. The field remains. The equations remain. What changes is the precision with which their roles are separated. The book closes with one final experiment. Current is established in a wire. A nearby compass needle moves. No charge has travelled into the compass. And the next battle begins. The manuscript explicitly protects this distinction between successful equations and the deeper mechanism they may or may not uniquely determine.
